Hi, I'm Meridith
Meridith Taylor Strout is a children’s book author, speaker and educator with a background in early literacy. Her debut book, The More the Merrier, combines storytelling with a multisensory approach to help young readers understand the importance of inclusion, kindness, and belonging. Through her work, she is passionate about creating engaging learning experiences that support all children, especially diverse learners.
From a quiet reading nook to children's bookshelves everywhere
I wrote The More the Merrier to show children the power of inclusion, kindness, and inviting others in. With my background in education and early literacy, I wanted to create a story that not only builds reading skills but also helps children feel seen, valued, and connected. By weaving music and hands-on instruments into the story, I use a multisensory approach to early literacy, making learning interactive and meaningful for all types of learners. My hope is that every child walks away understanding that when we include others, life truly becomes richer and more joyful.
The more we include others, the more we discover that there is always room for one more.
How it all began
Book Idea
The idea for The More the Merrier was born during a special moment in a Kindermusik class with my son, where I saw firsthand the joy that music, literacy and connection can bring to children.
Publishing The More the Merrier book
After years of carrying the idea in my heart, I made the decision to finally bring this story to life and begin the journey of creating the book. It took time to get off the ground as I learned the process of publishing a book and navigated each step along the way.
Published year
The More the Merrier was officially published, sharing its message of inclusion, kindness, and connection with children, families, and classrooms.
The journey
The journey continues as I write and illustrate the second book in the series, expanding on the themes of music, positivity, and meaningful connection.
The heart behind every story
Inclusion First
Every child deserves to see themselves in a story. I write characters that reflect the wonderful diversity of real classrooms.
Joy in Reading
A child who laughs while reading is a child who comes back to books. Every page should spark a smile.
Stories That Stay
I write the kind of books I hope kids will pull off the shelf again and again, long after they've outgrown them.
